"Are Real-Time Objects Ready for Prime Time?"

Richard Mark Soley, Ph.D.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Object Management Group, Inc.

Abstract

Systems integration -- interoperability, sharing of data and leveraging of enterprise system assets -- is the key activity of most MIS/IT departments around the world.
The need for simpler, more maintainable integration was the impetus for the de facto standard CORBA specification, as well as other systems integration standards such as Microsoft's DCOM.  The key focus of CORBA has been integration "across the enterprise" -- from supercomputers to mainframes to desktops to embedded systems.
Can the same integration approach extend equally well to the real-time environment?
Dr. Soley will explore how the industry can agree on an approach to real-time object computing, and look at attempts to do so in the industry so far.
