Korea Aerospace Research Institute has been developing the Smart UAV using a tiltrotor platform. The Smart UAV has three representative flight modes : helicopter, airplane, and conversion. Each of the flight modes has unique and nonlinear flight characteristics that the optimization of flight schedule was required for effective flight performance.
This paper presents collective, flap, and nacelle angle scheduler for whole flight envelope of the Smart UAV based on CAMRAD II analysis results. The scheduler designs were modified so that the pitch attitude angle of the helicopter mode was minimized. The collective pitch angle of nonlinear simulation software, TRSIM developed by KARI, was correlated with that from the CAMRAD II. The results showed similar trend that the scheduler from CAMRAD II can be utilized in the TRSIM environment.
