Supersonic Air-Breathing Laser-Spike Engine Propulsion Vehicle

Laser propulsion is a propulsion system using laser energy in order to generate thrust. Laser propulsion system generates thrust using the blast wave induced by laser energy instead of combustion process. As a kind of application of laser propulsion, air-breathing laser-spike engine can be suggested for a MAV aircraft in atmospheric flight. Since laser propulsion uses air as propellant in the atmosphere, and laser facilities exist in the remote place, this engine can become a solution of propulsion system of MAV. Initial results related with this 2-Dimensional micro air-breathing laser-spike engine is reported for the experiment and numerical simulation.
