Abstract
For the purpose of
consolidating the cooperation and development of Open Source Software (OSS) in
the region of Northeast Asia, China, Japan and Korea(CJK) decided to exchange
information of OSS, share each otherÕs research achievement and jointly commit
themselves to the development of OSS-based software such as Linux. The Director
Generals of CJK have reached such consensus and signed on the Memorandum at
Beijing, Apr. 2004, and agreed upon the 10 cooperation plans such as 1) Create
favorable policy environment for the development and utilization of OSS,
especially Linux, 2) Cooperate on the standardization of Linux, character set,
document exchange format, etc. and strengthen the support of Linux to the
language of China, Japan, and Korea, 3) Promote research and development,
commercialization and deployment of desktop Linux, server Linux and office
software for Linux in China, Japan, and Korea, and so on. In this presentation,
the details of the cooperation plans, organization and Working Group activities
of CJK OSS Promotion Forum will be introduced

Biography
Doo-Hyun Kim: Doo-Hyun Kim is
an Assistant Professor in the School of Internet and Multimedia Engineering at Konkuk
University, Seoul, Korea. His current research interests are in distributed
multimedia middleware, multimedia collaboration, real-time distributed object
computing, embedded systems.
Before he joined
the faculty of Seoul National University in 2004, he was a Principal Research
Staff in the Embedded Software Division, ETRI from 1987 to 2003 and an International
Fellow at the SRI International from 1991 to 1993. He received a BS degree from
the Department of Computer Engineering, Seoul National University, in 1985; an
MS degree from the Department of Computer Science, KAIST, in 1987; and a Ph.D
degree from the Department of Computer Science, KAIST, in 2003. He is currently
the executive secretary of WG2, Korea OSS
Promotion Forum.
