Abstract
The BONE project includes the development of the national standard for open
source software-based computing environment as well
as that of fundamental technologies for Linux desktop and server systems:
1. Linux desktop and server specifications
National standards to define the desktop and server computing environment in Korea based on open source software
solution
2. Booyoª Linux desktop solution
3. Booyoª Linux server system
The BONE project is being
performed by ETRI, in cooperation with KIPA and six major Korean companies such
as Samsung Electronics, POSDATA, Haansoft, WOWLINUX, IgetLinux, CNETIA.

Biography
Myung-Joon
Kim: Myung-Joon Kim
received the B.S.
degree from Seoul National University, Korea, the M.S. degree from KAIST(Korea
Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and the Ph.D. degree from
University of Nancy I, Nancy France in 1978, 1980 and 1986 respectively, all in
computer science.
He
joined ETRI in 1986 and has worked for the development of system software
technologies especially database systems and distributed system technologies.
He served as head of Database Section(1989-1992). In 1993 he worked at
University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, France as a visiting professor. He served
also as head of Software Engineering Section(1994), director of System Software
Department(1995-1997), director of Internet Service Department(1998-1999), Vice
President of Computer & Software
Technology Laboratory(2000-2001), director of Contents Technology
Department(2001) and director of Computer System Department(2002-2003).
Currently he is director of Internet Server Group in Digital Home Division. His
current research interests include database system, real-time event processing,
open source software technologies and their deployment for new Internet
applications such as real VoD service and Ubiquitous Computing Platform.
